Educational activities
Original learning ideas for math, reading, music, coding and science.
Math: make equal groups
Use safe household objects with a grown-up. Make three groups of four and describe how addition and multiplication connect. Choose simpler groups for younger children.
Reading: tell it in order
Read a short story together. Ask what happened first, next and last, then ask which words support an idea about a character.
Music: find the pulse
Tap a steady beat together and compare it with the rhythm of a familiar song. Friday’s Activities screen includes a beat-tapping activity.
Coding: be the robot
Give step-by-step movement instructions in a clear, safe space. Look for repeated steps and describe a loop.
Science: shadow detective
With a grown-up, draw the shadow of the same object at two times. Compare what changes. Never look directly at the Sun.
